5 Reasons to Choose Locally Grown Flowers in Bradford on Avon

At Cicely Flowers, all of the flowers I sell are grown right here in Bradford on Avon, Wiltshire. They're harvested by hand, arranged with care, and sold just a few metres from where they were grown.

Of course, all flowers are lovely, wherever they come from. But if you've ever wondered why more and more people are choosing locally grown flowers, here are five reasons to consider buying British-grown blooms.

1. They're fresher

One of the biggest advantages of buying locally grown flowers in Bradford on Avon is freshness.

The flowers at Cicely Flowers are often harvested and on the flower stand within a day of being cut. Because they haven't travelled through a lengthy supply chain, they arrive in your home looking and feeling at their very best.

Fresh flowers don't just look better - they often have more movement, fragrance and character too.

2. They celebrate the seasons

One of my favourite things about growing flowers in Wiltshire is watching the seasons unfold through the flowers themselves.

In spring, there are tulips, narcissi and peonies. Summer brings campanula, cornflowers, cosmos and dahlias. Autumn offers rich colours and textures that simply aren't available at other times of year.

Rather than expecting the same flowers all year round, locally grown flowers allow us to enjoy each season for what it offers.

3. You're supporting a local Bradford on Avon business

When you buy flowers from Cicely Flowers, you're supporting a small independent flower grower right here in Bradford on Avon.

There's a real person behind every bunch. Every seed is sown, every stem harvested and every bouquet arranged by hand.

Choosing local flowers helps support small businesses, keeps money within the local economy and helps maintain traditional growing skills here in Wiltshire.

4. They have natural beauty and character

Locally grown flowers aren't bred to survive long journeys or weeks in storage.

Instead, they're chosen for their beauty, scent and ability to bring something special to a bouquet.

Curving stems, delicate tendrils and flowers that dance in the breeze all add to their charm. They're not always perfectly uniform, and that's exactly what makes them so beautiful.

5. They connect us to where we live

Flowers grown in Wiltshire reflect the landscape, weather and seasons around us.

When you buy locally grown flowers from Bradford on Avon, you're bringing a little piece of the local countryside into your home. Each bouquet tells the story of the season, the weather and the care that went into growing it.

For me, that's what makes locally grown flowers so special.

If you'd like to experience the difference for yourself, you can find fresh seasonal flowers on the Cicely Flowers flower stand every Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Bradford on Avon, or reserve a bouquet in advance through the website.

Flower Stand Pre-Order
£15.00

This week I have sunflowers (a special variety called “White Lite” which is a pale yellow), campanula, cornflowers, dianthus, hopefully the very first of the Larkspur, and lots of other lovely flowers blooming.

Don’t want to make a wasted journey to the flower stand only to find it sold out?

You can now reserve your weekly bunch in advance.

These are the same £15 bunches that you’ll find on the flower stand - simply reserved and waiting for you to collect.

Pre-orders open every Monday and close Thursday evening, with collection available Friday–Sunday.

Orders are limited each week and may sell out before the deadline once all bunches are spoken for.

Pre-ordering means you can arrive knowing your flowers are waiting for you, while also helping me harvest more accurately and thoughtfully each week - cutting only what’s needed so everything is picked fresh with less waste.

Each bunch is made using whatever is looking its absolute best in the field that week, so your bunch may vary slightly depending on the day’s harvest.

Please note: Please ring the door bell when you arrive and I will be there to greet you with your flowers.
